FAQs | Pumpkin Seed Oil
Nutrition, Pumpkin Seed Oil + Meal
Australian pumpkin seed oil is a cold-pressed oil made from the seeds of the Styrian pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo var. styriaca), grown locally by Pepo Farms in Victoria. The seeds are pressed fresh without heat or chemicals, which keeps their natural green colour, nutty flavour, and nutrient content intact. Because it’s made here in Australia, the oil is fresher and higher in antioxidants than imported versions of the same plant oil.

Pumpkin seeds are naturally rich in protein, zinc, magnesium, iron and vitamin E. The cold-pressed oil concentrates vitamin E, plant sterols, essential fatty acids (linoleic & oleic) and natural antioxidants that support skin health, hormone balance, heart function, and cellular repair.
If you’re looking to boost minerals such as zinc and magnesium, whole seeds and the pressed pumpkin seed meal are ideal. For antioxidant and fatty-acid benefits, reach for the oil.

Pumpkin seed meal is the finely milled seed left after the oil is pressed. With most of the oil removed, the nutrients become more concentrated — it’s around 49 % protein, naturally gluten-free, and rich in fibre, zinc, magnesium, and iron.
Think of it as a whole-food, nut-free alternative to pea, almond, or soy flour for anyone wanting a natural source of plant protein that supports gut and hormone health.

- Pumpkin seed oil is best enjoyed raw to avoid any damage that cooking would do to it. Drizzle it over salads, soups, or vegetables, or mix a teaspoon through yoghurt or smoothies for a smooth, nutty flavour.
- Pumpkin seed meal adds a mild, earthy richness to pancakes, muffins, energy balls, or bread. You can also mix it into porridge, yoghurt, or smoothies for a nourishing protein boost.
Start with 10–25 % of your flour mix in baking for a soft texture and subtle nuttiness.
Practitioner Tip: As a naturopath and nutritionist, I often suggest combining pumpkin seed meal with collagen peptides in smoothies or breakfast bowls. Together they provide a complete amino-acid profile and steady, satisfying energy throughout the day.

Hormones & Health
Yes. Pumpkin seed oil is one of nature’s richest sources of zinc and plant sterols, both of which help regulate hormones naturally.
For women, zinc supports healthy progesterone production and can calm skin breakouts linked to hormonal shifts.
For men, plant sterols in pumpkin seed oil are known to support prostate and urinary health.
As part of a balanced diet, a small daily drizzle of pumpkin seed oil can gently nourish hormone function in both men and women.

Absolutely. Pumpkin seed oil and collagen peptides complement each other beautifully — one supports the skin’s barrier and hydration, the other builds its structure from within.
Collagen provides amino acids that strengthen connective tissue, while the antioxidants and essential fatty acids in pumpkin seed oil protect and nourish at a cellular level.
Practitioner Tip: Add a teaspoon of pumpkin seed oil to your morning collagen smoothie or yoghurt. It enhances absorption of fat-soluble nutrients like vitamin E and keeps your skin, joints, and gut feeling supported from the inside out.

Yes, it’s designed with sensitive skin in mind.
Each Pepo Natural Skincare formula is made with gentle, plant-based ingredients like calendula, comfrey, and aloe vera, blended with cold-pressed oils and natural botanicals.
Free from synthetic fragrance and harsh preservatives, the range supports skin that needs calm, consistent care.
While rosehip and jojoba are long-time favourites, pumpkin seed oil offers a unique nutrient profile — combining antioxidant vitamin E, skin-healing zinc, and a balanced ratio of linoleic and oleic acids. It hydrates deeply without feeling greasy and supports skin repair for all types, especially dry or mature skin. Because it’s pressed fresh in Australia, it retains more of its natural antioxidants than most imported oils.
“Pepo” comes from Cucurbita pepo — the botanical name for the Styrian pumpkin variety grown by Pepo Farms in Victoria. While Pepo Natural Skincare and Pepo Farms are independent businesses, they share the same values of sustainability, integrity, and transparency. I source my oil directly from the farm so every product you use is made with fresh, locally grown, chemical-free ingredients.
