Why Nutrition and Gut Health are Essential for Wellbeing

Your digestive system does far more than process food. It influences your immunity, hormone balance, mood, energy, and skin health.

When your gut isn’t functioning well, it can affect every part of your life.

As a registered naturopath and nutritionist — and with many years’ experience as a professional chef — Gabby Scott brings together clinical knowledge and real-world food skills to create nutrition plans that are both therapeutic and enjoyable.

This combination means you get practical, achievable strategies that fit into your lifestyle, without sacrificing flavour or variety.

Common Gut and Nutrition Concerns I Treat

Digestive Discomfort

If your digestion regularly feels uncomfortable or unpredictable, it’s a sign your gut may need extra care. Symptoms like:

  • Bloating
  • Reflux
  • Abdominal pain after meals
  • Irregular bowel movements
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhoea

These can all point to underlying imbalances that benefit from targeted nutritional and naturopathic support.

Food Sensitivities and Intolerances

Gluten, dairy, and other food triggers can contribute to symptoms like:

  • Brain fog
  • Fatigue
  • Skin breakouts
  • Mood changes

These reactions can affect both adults and children, and I also provide specialised guidance through my naturopathy consultations.

Celiac Disease Support

I have extensive experience supporting people with both classic and non-classic celiac presentations.

Where appropriate, I recommend genetic testing as the first step — a quick, non-invasive way to determine if celiac disease is even possible before moving on to further testing.

Medicinal Foods

My Food-as-Medicine Approach

I use whole foods, targeted nutrients, and therapeutic eating plans to improve digestion, reduce inflammation, and support overall wellbeing. For some clients, I also recommend targeted supplements — such as hydrolysed collagen powder — to help repair the gut lining and support skin and joint health.

Nutrition also plays an important role in my work as a women’s health naturopath, where hormone balance and digestive function often go hand in hand.

Seasonal Detox Programs

Each year, I also offer a 5-day seasonal detox program, designed to gently support liver health and help your body transition between seasons.

This approach draws on principles from Chinese medicine and Ayurveda, and is perfect for people wanting a short, practical reset without depriving themselves for too long.

Nutritionist and gut health naturopath helps clients by giving shopping lists and food plans to simplify the process

Real Expertise

How My Chef Background Informs My Nutrition Plans

Before becoming a naturopath and nutritionist, I trained and worked as a chef on yachts for high-end clients. That experience means I can:

  • Create recipes that are both enjoyable and therapeutic
  • Teach time-saving meal prep hacks from the commercial kitchen
  • Show you how starting with a shopping list can remove the stress and simplify the process
  • Help you adapt family meals to suit your gut-healing plan

Practical Meal Planning & Shopping Lists

Nutrition advice only works if it’s realistic to follow.

My clients often tell me that the shopping lists, recipes, and meal prep strategies I provide are what make the biggest difference to sticking with their plan long-term.

Clinical Testing

Testing Options for Gut and Nutrition Health

Private Pathology Without GP Referral

Through my clinic, you can access nutrient and digestive health testing without needing a GP appointment — for example, zinc, B12, thyroid, or iron panels. Of course, you can also go through your GP if you prefer.

These tests help us identify imbalances and build a clearer picture of what’s going on under the surface.

Microbiome and Functional Testing

Advanced stool analysis can provide detailed insights into your gut flora, digestive enzyme activity, inflammation markers, and more, giving us a clear path forward for treatment.

How I Work as a Nutritionist

Bringing together naturopathy, nutrition, herbal medicine, and a chef’s understanding of food.

Food should feel simple, nourishing, and enjoyable; not confusing or restrictive. My approach to gut health blends modern nutritional science with naturopathic care to uncover what’s really driving symptoms like bloating, sensitivities, or fatigue.

I use functional testing where needed, but often it begins with understanding your digestion, your daily rhythms, and how food makes you feel. Together, we create small, realistic changes that calm the gut, support hormones, and bring back a sense of ease and trust in your body.

FAQs Nutritionist + Gut Health Naturopath

Nutritionist + Gut Health Naturopath | Sunshine Coast Hinterland, Australia

A gut health naturopath combines nutrition, herbal medicine, and lifestyle guidance to address digestive problems like bloating, reflux, constipation, diarrhoea, and food intolerances. At Sunshine House of Wellness, I take a personalised approach — assessing your symptoms, diet, and lifestyle to create a plan that’s realistic and easy to follow.

In addition to being a registered naturopath and nutritionist, I have many years of experience as a professional chef. This means I can create therapeutic meal plans that are delicious, practical, and tailored to your tastes — not just “healthy on paper.”

Not necessarily. If testing is needed, I can arrange private pathology and functional tests — such as zinc, B12, thyroid panels, or microbiome mapping — without requiring a GP referral. You’re welcome to go through your GP if you prefer.

Microbiome testing is an advanced stool analysis that measures your beneficial bacteria, pathogenic microbes, digestive enzyme activity, and inflammation markers. These results help me create a targeted plan to restore balance and improve your gut health.

Absolutely. I use a “food as medicine” approach — therapeutic eating plans combined with practical shopping lists and meal prep strategies. These changes can reduce inflammation, repair the gut lining, and support your whole-body health.

You can book online via the Sunshine House of Wellness shared booking system. Just select Gabby Scott when booking. Appointments are available in person on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, Belli Park or online. You’re always welcome to get in touch first if you have a question about our naturopathy services.
